project Beyond EPICA in the Antarctic

Success in the Antarctic

The third drilling season of the European research project Beyond EPICA in the Antarctic has come to an end. After two months of hard fieldwork, the team, which also included researchers from the Oeschger Centre, has reached a depth of 1836 metres in the ice sheet. The University of Bern is a key partner in this project, which aims to look back 1.5 million years into the climate of the past with the help of ice cores.

High honour for OCCR researchers

OCCR President Thomas Stocker and Jakob Schwander, a former OCCR member, have been honoured with one of the most important and highly endowed science prizes in Europe, the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award. They are being honoured in particular for their work with ice cores from the Antarctic.
